Sustainable and authentic food sharing platform with Leftovers

Leftovers is a Copenhagen-based startup on a mission to make home-cooked food more accessible, affordable, and sustainable. Their idea: a platform where neighbors can sell and buy homemade meals, thus reducing food waste while strengthening local communities. They partnered with us to design, build, and launch their MVP, a mobile app that connects home cooks with nearby customers in just a few taps.

We took on the full product lifecycle: branding, UX/UI design, architecture planning, and development of the initial product using Flutter and Firebase. The result was a fast and scalable cross-platform app with a clean, intuitive interface designed for everyday use, even by non-tech users

The MVP included all the core functionality needed to validate the idea in the real world:

• Create & list home-cooked meals with photos, price, and pickup times
• Location-based browsing and filtering to discover food nearby
• Meal ordering and payment flow built into the app
• User ratings, reviews, and social trust indicators
• Push, badge, and in-app notifications to keep users engaged
• App & profile settings to manage personal and cooking activity

These features gave Leftovers everything they needed to launch, test, and iterate based on real user behavior in Copenhagen.

Because food handling is very regulated in Denmark, we also implemented compliance-oriented logic aligned with Fødevarestyrelsen (the Danish Food Safety Authority). This ensured that both cooks and consumers could use the app and its services in compliance, so that the platform could scale legally, not just technically.

Today, we continue to maintain and enhance the app, with new features in development to support growth and expand the platform's functionality.
